Another classic car and bike commission - two Francis Barnett motorbikes from a private collection

October 8, 2024

I am delighted to announce that I have been commissioned to illustrate 2 classic Francis Barnett motorbikes from a private collection. Can't wait to get started!

Francis Barnett was a British motorcycle manufacturer founded in the early 20th century, notable for producing lightweight and innovative bikes.

The company was established in 1919, and gained prominence in the 1930s and 1940s, known for its distinctive designs and engineering.

The brand's hallmark was its use of the “twin-port” engine, which provided enhanced performance and efficiency. Francis Barnett motorcycles were also recognised for their reliability and ease of handling, appealing to both novice and experienced riders. Models like the "Cruiser" and "Falcon" became popular, often featuring lightweight frames and aesthetic touches that set them apart from competitors.

During World War II, the company contributed to the war effort by manufacturing military bikes, which solidified its reputation for durability. Post-war, Francis Barnett faced challenges due to increasing competition and changing market dynamics, ultimately leading to its decline in the late 1960s.

Despite this, Francis Barnett motorcycles remain beloved among vintage bike enthusiasts, celebrated for their unique character and engineering ingenuity. Today, they are a symbol of classic British motorcycling history, with restored models frequently appearing at vintage motorcycle shows and events.

If you would like to commission your own piece of car or bike art, either for a friend, a member of the family or just for yourself, please get in touch for more details. I would love to hear from you!
